ADATA and MSI Unveil the World’s First 128GB DDR5 CUDIMM Memory Module

Publisher: Medussa.NetUpdate: 1970-01-01

ADATA, in collaboration with MSI, has officially introduced the world’s first 128GB DDR5 CUDIMM memory module, marking a major leap in desktop memory capacity. Designed and optimized for upcoming Intel Z890 motherboards, the new module uses a 4-RANK architecture that effectively doubles the capacity of standard DDR5 DIMMs.

Massive Capacity Arrives for Z890 Systems

Unlike traditional DDR5 modules, the CUDIMM (Clocked Unbuffered DIMM) standard integrates a dedicated on-module clock generation chip. By creating the clock signal directly on the memory stick, CUDIMM technology delivers lower latency, cleaner signaling, and improved stability — benefits that are particularly valuable in high-performance workloads dealing with large datasets.

The 4-RANK layout, rarely seen in desktop-class DDR5 designs, is aimed at professionals and creators who require extreme capacity. According to ADATA, this architecture offers significant efficiency improvements for:

  • AI model training and development
  • Software build environments
  • Virtualization workloads
  • Large-scale game development and content creation

With support for 2-DIMM setups totaling 256GB, Z890 platforms are set to become far more versatile for workstation-level tasks.

Performance and Validation

The first engineering samples have been validated at DDR5-5600 MT/s. ADATA reports strong long-term stability during “stable burn-in” testing on MSI’s in-development Z890 boards. Final performance profiles may reach higher speeds depending on product tier, though ADATA has not yet shared specific numbers.

Availability

ADATA has not announced a launch date or additional capacity options. However, the company suggests that as manufacturing ramps up, 128GB CUDIMM modules could reach the market in the coming months.
