Robotics Breakthrough: Hyundai Unveils Production-Ready 'MobED' Autonomous Platform

The production-ready robot, refined by the company's Robotics Lab, was showcased at the International Robot Exhibition 2025 (iREX 2025) in Tokyo, following its initial concept reveal at CES 2022.

Key Features and Capabilities: Adaptive Mobility and AI

MobED's core strength lies in its Adaptive Mobility, allowing it to navigate a wide range of environments.

• Advanced Stabilization: The robot employs a unique eccentric control mechanism that actively adjusts its posture and height. This feature is crucial for maintaining stability when traversing uneven, rugged outdoor surfaces, mitigating shocks, and keeping heavy loads balanced even on slopes.
• Drive-and-Life (DnL) Technology: Each of the four wheels integrates Hyundai's Drive-and-Lift (DnL) components, which combine driving, steering, and height adjustment into a single, compact module.
• Intuitive Autonomy: The droid uses a combination of LiDAR and cameras for perception, enabling AI-powered route planning and obstacle detection.

This modular design makes MobED highly adaptable, suitable for everything from delivery and logistics tasks to research, media operations, and even carrying golf equipment. Hyundai emphasizes its seamless operation in both narrow indoor corridors and challenging outdoor terrains, reducing the need for environment-specific robot designs.

Both robots are powered by a 1.47 kWh battery, providing up to four hours of operation on a single charge and recharging from 10% to 90% in under 2.5 hours.
